The pork tenderloins passed muster Wednesday evening for Gloria Renshaw, left, Mavis Struyk, center, and Wilma Collins, all of Perry. The Hotel Pattee's new chef, Cliff Pippitt, started last week.

News travels fast in a small town and when word got out the Hotel Pattee has a new chef, many of the town’s most distinguished residents came to try the newest fare.

Among the most distinguished local personages sampling Wednesday’s pork tenderloin offering were Gloria Renshaw, Mavis Struyk and Wilma Collins, Perry ladies all, who said Chef Cliff Pippitt’s dishes were of a quality they had come to expect at the Hotel Pattee.

One hotel guest noted some restaurants seek to awe diners with the sheer size of their tenderloins, but quantity is no substitute for quality, she said.

“For some people, price is the only consideration,” she said, “and whatever is cheapest is best. Wal-Mart has prospered by this principle, and so have many eateries, but it tends to keep the overall standard of taste very low. Not at the Hotel Pattee, though. You might sometimes pay a little more here, but — yum! — is it ever worth it.”

The passing guest was also dining on the pork tenderloin, which is the Wednesday night special at $5.99. She said it would be hard to find a better tenderloin — the breading pleased her in particular — and a cheaper one could only come from Chez Casey’s.
