Abby Howard, 16, of Perry was feted Monday with a drive-by birthday party.

Abby Howard of Perry, the daughter of Chris Howard and Amanda Simpson Howard, celebrated her 16th birthday Monday with a COVID-inspired drive-by parade of well wishers.

Abby suffers with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH), a progressive lung disease that sometimes slows her down but never stops her.

“She has been through a lot in the last few years, when we found out her disease had come back,” said Amanda Simpson Howard.

The two-hour drive-by parade was a sweet celebration that brought several local fire departments and a long line of vehicles past the Howards’ Taft Street house in Perry.

“Thank you so much for everyone that made this happen,” Simpson Howard said in a Facebook post later Monday. “You are all amazing. Brian Eiteman and everyone else that had a hand in this, thank you so much. Eric from Channel 5 came and did a interview, which means we are getting more awareness for IPAH out there. I love being a part of this community!”
