Achenbach, Hoyt earn postseason honors for W-G

WOODWARD — Senior forward Noah Hoyt and junior guard Bryce Achenbach of Woodward-Granger were both named to the Class 2A All-Substate 7 team by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.

W-G finished the season 16-5 overall. The Hawks were 13-3 in WCAC action.

The 6-4 Hoyt scored 287 points in his final prep season, an average of 13.7 per game. The forward made nine 3-pointers and sank 20-of-27 free throws (74 percent) while converting on 129-of-217 (59 percent) of his total field goals. Hoyt pulled down 85 rebounds, made 57 assists and totaled 33 steals.

Achenbach, a 5-11 point guard, scored 297 points (14.1 ppg) while draining 19 3-pointers and connecting on 42-of-72 (58 percent) foul shots. He snatched a team-best 114 rebounds, made 108 assists and totaled 57 steals. Achenbach finished with an almost exact 3-to-1 assist/steal vs. turnover ratio, a quite effective number.

The Hawks are coached by Brent Achenbach. They are a combined 31-15 over the past two seasons, the best such two-year span in at least 20 years.
