At a recent meeting, the Adel Lions Club invited organizations who assisted them last year with the Holiday Flag Project to share the proceeds from the program.

More than 1,300 flags were raised last year in Adel and DeSoto. Adel Lions Club President Pat Rohret presented three groups with a portion of the funds raised according to their degree of participation.

The Adel Boy Scouts, who have helped the Lions distribute flags for several years, earned $6,300 for their labor this year. Joining them part way through 2019 were the Girl Scouts, who received $900.

The Friends of De Soto Betterment Committee joined in the patriotic project last year and earned $1,000 for their efforts.

Rohret said the Adel Lions were grateful for the help and eager to work with the groups to extend the Holiday Flag program in the future.

“Without them the project could not be as successful as it is,” Rohret said. “Our communities look great with over 1,300 flags flying to honor our nation!”

The Lions are preparing for their 2020 Holiday Flag campaign, with help from both Scouting groups and the Friends of DeSoto. Sign-up sheets for 2020 are available in several locations, from any Lions Club member and on the Adel Lions Club website.
