An Adel man was arrested in the city dump in Adel Tuesday after he punched a person for throwing glass.

An Adel man was arrested about noon Tuesday at the county dump in Adel after he punched another dumper in the jaw twice.

Paul Edward Lockhart, 59, of 702 Prairie St. in Adel was arrested by an Adel Police Department officer on a charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in connection with the fight at the South Dallas County Landfill at 2000 Main St. in Adel.

According to court records, Lockhart and Derrick Duff, 46, of Earlham were at the landfill when two other males, Jonathan Stevenson, 35, of Colfax and Marton Wright, 38, of Newton, arrived in a Pella Windows work vehicle and began to unload their solid waste.

Lockhart told Adel Police Department Officer Brandon Pickett that “Stevenson was throwing glass, and it was giving Duff PTSD since Duff is a war veteran.”

Lockhart said he asked Stevenson to stop throwing the glass, but Stevenson did not stop, so “Lockhart stated he punched Stevenson twice in the jaw.”

Pickett said he saw blood on Stevenson’s face, and “Stevenson confirmed that Lockhart punched him twice in the jaw.”

Lockhart was arrested and later released from the Dallas County Jail after posting $1,000 cash bond. He is scheduled to appear Aug. 20 in Dallas County District Court.
