An Adel man was arrested for assault Friday afternoon after allegedly grabbing his girlfriend by the neck and pushing her into a counter top over his lunch hour.

Michael Cole Joint, 37, of 1630 Main, St., Adel, was arrested by the Adel Police Department on a charge of second-offense domestic abuse assault and on a Dallas County warrant for assault causing bodily injury in connection with an incident dating from 2011.

According to court records, the victim told police she and Joint were “arguing over him not paying bills and how his kids have been disrespectful to her.” When the victim told Joint Friday about 12:30 p.m. that “he needed to move out of the house,” Joint “started screaming at her” and saying “he wasn’t going anywhere.”

Joint then allegedly “put his right hand around her neck and pushed her against the kitchen counter,” according to court records. The responding officer observed “a red mark around her neck” and “a mark on her lower right back from being pushed into the counter top.”

Joint is held in the Dallas County Jail, awaiting an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Joint was convicted in Dallas County District Court in 2002 of domestic abuse assault.
