Jason Scott Weigum, 40, of Adel was arrested Wednesday on charges of two counts of attempted murder, first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief.

An Adel man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a house fire Sunday night in rural Adel that sent two people to the hospital with burns.

Jason Scott Weigum, 40, of 22760 Laredo Trail, Adel, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief and obstruction of emergency communications.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s office, a 911 caller reported the fire at 22760 Laredo Trail about 7:48 p.m. Sunday, saying that “someone poured gasoline inside the house and lit it on fire.”

The Dallas County EMS transported two people from the scene, including one victim who was later treated at the Burn Treatment Center of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The sheriff’s office has not yet released a statement about the investigation that led to Weigum’s arrest or identified a motive for his alleged crimes.

The Minburn Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas Center Volunteer Fire Department responded and controlled the fire but not before the house sustained significant damage.
