An Adel man tried but failed to evade the long arm of the Adel Police Department Tuesday afternoon.
Dusty Shane McFarland, 29, of 320 N. 14th St., Adel, was charged with driving while barred-habitual offender, interference with official acts and failure to obey stop sign and yield right of way.
The incident began about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of N. 14th Street, where an officer of the Adel Police Department allegedly observed McFarland operating a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and recognized him as someone with a barred license.
The officer “attempted to catch up to the Jeep, but it sped away” and “ran the stop sign at N. 14th Street and Grove Street,” according to court records.
The officer located the vehicle at McFarland’s residence, “but it was empty,” according to court records.
McFarland’s mother indicated to the officer that her son was inside the residence.
The officer entered the home, where McFarland allegedly “attempted to jump out a window” before he was subsequently “found hiding in a crawl space upstairs,” according to court records.
McFarland is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,587.88 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance Wednesday in Dallas County District Court.
McFarland was convicted of driving while barred three times in 2020 and once in 2021 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of driving while barred in 2020 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of interference with official acts in 2020 in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Everyone in Adel knows Dusty is not supposed to be driving, including the police. Sell the Jeep, and pay those fines!
