Adel woman arrested in Perry Saturday for alleged assault

Mindy Dawn Castro, 40, of Adel was arrested in Perry Saturday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault.

An Adel woman was arrested in Perry Saturday after allegedly assaulting her male companion after a family gathering.

Mindy Dawn Castro, 40, of 29456 Old Portland Road, Adel, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, when officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a male and female fighting in the vicinity of the Perry Park Apartments on Perry Park Avenue.

According to court records, the caller reported that “a group showed up, and the female was taken to the ground.”

Officers made contact with Castro and the male victim. The victim said they were at “a family get together” in Perry and when they left, Castro “became upset” and “stood up and began hitting and choking” the victim.

Officers observed on the victim “a small scratch above his right eye,” according to court records.

The adult son of Castro and the victim witnessed the assault, according to court records.

Castro was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $1,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 23 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
