Perry's Noah Wilkening rolls a birdie putt toward the cup on the sixth green at the Perry Golf and Country Club last season. The Bluejay senior fired a 38 to pace the hosts in their season opener Tuesday.

After each team had tabulated their three lowest scores at the Perry Golf and Country Club Thursday, host Perry and ADM stood locked at 120 strokes apiece. The deciding factor became the fourth scores, as a 43-47 advantage for the Tigers created a 163-167 victory.

Perry’s Noah Wilkening offset a bogey five on the seventh hole with birdies on the third and eighth holes to shoot a medalist-winning one-under par 35.

Dane McCarty stepped up to fire a 42 for the second team score, with Ryan Rathje carding a 43. Perry then counted one of two rounds of 47 provided by Connor Nielsen and Luke Rathje. Kade VanKirk’s 49 was not used toward the team total.

“Noah had a very good night again,” Bluejay head coach Nick Field said. “Ryan and Dane came through with nice rounds after stumbling the last couple of meets. We just need one more good score and we will be right in the hunt.”

ADM’s Jacob Schumacker shot a 38 to claim runner-up medalist honors. The Tigers also counted rounds from Grant Curran (40), Matthew West (42) and Micah Moyer (43), with WIll Geadelman (47) and Adam O’Connor (52) also playing.

The Tigers brought just three junior varsity golfers to the meet and thus could not generate an official team score. Joe Finnegan fired a 43, Tyler Wylie a 52 and Carson Been a 58 for ADM.

Tanner Duffy (49), Tanner Darr (54), Brody Kimrey (59) and Tyler Soll (61) led the Bluejay JV, with Izac Kinkennon (65), Gabe Ridnour (68), Devin Patrick (78) and Justin Stammer (81) also playing nine holes.

Perry will play at Copper Creek Monday as Carlisle serves as host for the RRC boys tournament. They will then travel to Atlantic May 13 for a Class 3A Sectional, with ADM, Atlantic, Carroll, Creston, Glenwood, Greene County and Harlan also in the field.
