Visiting ADM slowly chipped away against Perry at the PAC Friday, with the Tigers cashing on in their opportunities and using strong pitching from Molly Jacobsen to top Perry, 6-1, in Raccoon River Conference action.

Perry (1-4, 1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Johanna Diw singled. Two wild pitches and a dropped third strike allowed Diw to round the bags and score and put Victoria Hegstrom on first base. An unsuccessful bunt and a pop out ended the inning.

Alyssa Kruger doubled to deep left field in the second and singled in the fourth, but on both occasions was stranded on base.

A wild top of the fourth had put ADM (7-1, 4-1) in front, 2-0.

The inning began with Kate Collins drawing a walk. Kenzie Sutton doubled and Montana Popp was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out when a throwing error on a force play at the plate allowed the Collins to score. A sacrifice fly followed, and by the time Emma Olejniczak tallied the eighth of her 12 strikeouts the guests led, 2-1.

Three singles and a walk brought three runs home for the Tigers in the sixth, with a walk, single and passed ball plating the seventh ADM run in the seventh. Olejniczak struck out the final three batters she faced to finish with a dozen “K’s” but with no help from the offense Perry fell for the fourth time in five games.

Jacobsen was a big reason why the Perry bats were silent, as a walk to Hegstrom in the sixth was the only base runner she allowed in the final three frames.

Katelyn Whelchel (7) takes a short toss from Sidney Vancil to force an out at second base.

The Tiger ace allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 11 in earning the victory.

Olejniczak was tagged for six runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk with one hit batsman.

Perry plays Van Meter at 9:30 a.m. today in the Paul and Mary Ann Graves Classic, which will be played for the first time at the PAC. Interstate-35 and IKM-Manning will meet in the second game, with the two losers to play at 1 p.m. and the two winners at 3:30 p.m. Start times for the second, third and final games are approximate.
