ADEL, Iowa — The Dallas County Sheriff’s office began an investigation Monday into an alleged assault that occurred Dec. 15 at the Dexter Elementary School in Dexter, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the sheriff’s office.

An employee of the West Central Valley Community School District allegedly assaulted a student at the Dexter Elementary School, according to Dallas County Chief Deputy Sheriff Adam Infante. The school district reported the incident to the sheriff’s office, Infante said.

The Iowa Department of Human Services was notified and is still actively investigating the incident, Infante said.

The name of the suspect has not been released, and the name of the juvenile victim will not be released, he said.

The four campuses of the West Central Valley Community School District serve 812 students in Dexter, Redfied and Stuart, according to data from the Iowa Department of Education. The Dexter Elementary School has an enrollment of 179 students in the third, fourth and fifth grades.
