CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Alex Bebb, a senior at Ogden HIgh School, was one of 70 student scholars statewide recently selected to receive a scholarship from the Grand Lodge of Iowa Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, the Grand Lodge announced this week.

Bebb received the $1,850 award in recognition of his academic performance, community activities, leadership and financial need. A total of $129,500 was awarded to graduating seniors out of 466 applicants from students at Iowa’s public high schools.

The Grand Lodge of Iowa has awarded more than $1.2 million in scholarships from an endowment fund established to recognize the accomplishments and potential of young Iowans.

Masonry believes itself to be the world’s oldest fraternity. The organization is dedicated to building character among its members, the announcement said. Membership is open to males at least 18 years old. There are 242 Masonic lodges in communities across Iowa.
