All-WCAC volleyball teams released

Four Woodward-Granger, one Panorama player earn recognition.

A lengthy wait has ended the release of the West Central Activities Conference All-Conference volleyball lists for the 2017 season.

Woodward-Granger senior Julie Pitman was named to the First Team, with fellow Hawk senior Ashley Gales chosen for the Second Team. W-G seniors Alyssa Bice and Kaycee Major were both named to the Honorable Mention list.

Panorama was represented by junior Brooke Halterman, who garnered a Second Team position.

Pitman finished with 213 kills and 37 digs for W-G, who finished 25-14 overall and 6-2 in WCAC play. She recorded 56 blocks and served 212-of-248 with 52 aces.

Gales had 237 kills and 48 blocks. She saw limited back row time, but was 11-15-6 while serving and had 15 digs.

Bice tallied 148 kills and seven blocks while making 152 digs and distributing 197 assists. Bice finished 236-277-48 behind the serving line.

Major spent much of the season as the libero player for the Hawks. She recorded 249 digs, had 27 assists and served 143-of-161 with 17 aces.

Halterman was solid all-around for Panorama (7-25, 1-7). She tallied 171 kills, made 41 blocks and 31 digs and had 10 assists. The junior was 73-of-86 with eight aces beyond the stripe.

The First Team also included Ava Van Soelen (Sr., DMC) and Sophie Volk (Sr., Van Meter), both of who were unanimous selections. Other top squad spots went to Alayna Bakke (Jr., DMC), Maggie Braun (Sr., Van Meter), Mady Smith (Sr., AC/GC) and Shayla Peters (Sr., Madrid), with Earlham senior Cameryn Caskey chosen as defensive specialist.

Others chosen for the Second Team were McCall Baker (Jr., DMC), Aubrey Artzer (Sr., Van Meter), Makayla Hoing (Sr., AC/GC), Rachel Luke (Jr., Earlham) and Maranda Wheelock (Sr., Ogden). Junior Emma Veenstra of DMC was named defensive specialist.

ED Brogean of Van Meter was chosen Coach of the Year.
