The PHS Select Choir, under the director of PHS Vocal Music Director Jenn Nelson, sand "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the 2016 Veterans Day ceremonies in Perry.

The annual Perry Community School District Veterans Day program will be observed in a non-traditional manner this year out of respect for the health and well-being of our community’s veterans and residents, the school district announced Wednesday.

The PCSD program began with the PHS Social Studies Department World War II Panel in 1989 and expanded into the current program in 1998 in order to fill a community void.

Due to the special conditions imposed by the COVID-19 global pandemic, this year’s Veterans Day observation, organized by the Perry School Foundation, will consist of the following:

  • Yard signs honoring veterans, funded by the Perry Community School District
  • Veterans hats, donated by TC&B Corporate Wearables
  • “Band of Brothers and Sisters” video, accessible at www.perry.k12.ia.us
  • Public service announcements: “On This Veterans Day …” (Community Members), “A Veteran Is…” (Bluejay Congress and Students) and “Why I Served …” (Community Veterans), accessible at KDLS radio

Veterans requesting hats and yard signs should contact Linda Andorf at 515-465-5803 or 515-681-0162 or Linda Kaufman at 515-321-2536.
