NORWALK – The third annual Connection Music Festival will feature top acts in Christian music Saturday, June 18 in Norwalk. This year’s headliner will be American Idol artist Colton Dixon.

The free outdoor concert will be held rain or shine just two miles south of the Des Moines airport. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. at Crossroads Festival Grounds, located at 2601 Border St. in Norwalk. Parking is free.

Other bands include Sanctus Real, Bread of Stone, We are Leo, Jeff Arrandale and Skylar Kaylyn.

Dixon has won numerous awards, including Best Contemporary/Rock Album and two other Dove Award nominations as well as two number-one radio singles. The young artist’s 2013 debut, “A Messenger,” set records for the biggest first-week sales by a new solo Christian act, the top-selling album that year by a new Christian artist and the number-nine best-selling album of 2013 in the Christian genre overall.

“A Messenger” also rose to twenty-second best-selling album across all genres that same year, even as Dixon was still reeling from his highly publicized seventh-place finish on Season 11 of American Idol.

Having witnessed the launch of the Lifelight Music Festival, which is now a two-day festival that attracts more than 300,000 attendees and brings in an estimated $10 million economic boost to the area at his former Sioux Falls church, Pastor Glen Blumer asked, “Why not in Iowa?” when he moved to Norwalk in 2000.

Connection Music Festival was launched three years ago in partnership with Lifelight Communications under the leadership of Crossroads Church, where Blumer serves as pastor. Lifelight Founder Alan Greene will be the evening’s special guest speaker, and Fellowship Community Church is partnering to bring the event to Norwalk.

Along with live music, a Family Fun Zone will have games for children of all ages. Food, drinks and artist merchandise will be available for purchase. Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Coolers will not be allowed on site.
