Volunteers made short work of Saturday’s landscaping project at the American Legion Post 85 grounds at 1324 First Ave. in Perry as five dump trucks full of sand and silt were hauled away from the parking in front of the building.

“The build up of debris has made mowing difficult and hazardous,” said Perry Legionnaire Denny Glass, who has tended the legion hall grounds for many years. Glass said about 14 inches of silt  and other matter had been deposited over the years.

American Legion Post 85 Commander Mike Kelley was grateful to Clarence Moorman and Tom and Ted Sloss for assistance with the leveling.

“Many thanks go out to our volunteers,” said Kelley.
