An Ames man was arrested in Waukee late Sunday on assault and harassment charges after allegedly kicking Waukee Police Department Officers and threatening to kill them and their families.

Jal Dual Bijiek, 20, of Ames was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations and two counts of first-degree harassment.

The incident began about 11:45 p.m. Sunday when Waukee Police Department Officers responded to a report of assault on Waco Place in Waukee.

The officers arrived and “found Jal Bijiek pinned down by his family” and “behaving aggressively,” according to court records.

Bijiek “began threatening to kill our families,” according to a Waukee Police Department Officer’s statement in the criminal complaint. “We then had to place Jal in handcuffs to keep him from striking us.”

In the process, Bijiek kicked one of the officers, and he “continued threatening to kill us and our families until” he was transported to the Dallas County Jail, the complaint said.

Bijiek was held in Dallas County Jail until posting bond. He is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 13 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
