Annual shred event brings security to document destruction

Donning gloves and hats in the unusually cool autumn weather Saturday morning, Perry Public Library Director Mary Murphy joined Joe Salazar of The Shredder, a Des Moines document security and shredding service, for the library’s fifth annual free paper-shredding service.

The two-hour event is a regular feature on the library’s October calendar, Murphy said, and is sponsored by the library, the Raccoon Valley Bank and The Shredder.

“Could we start doing this twice a year?” said one of the paper-laden drive-through droppers off in the parking area between the library and the Des Moines Area Community College Perry VanKirk Career Academy.

Salazar demonstrated the mobile shredder’s internal camera system, which shows the progress of the materials through the shredder.
