The day-long event started with 20 golfers teeing off at 9 a.m. in the 13U portion of the tourney. Youth were paired with an adult for an alternate-shot format, with the kids teeing off on each of the nine holes. Each golfer and other youngsters with their families received a small soft-sided cooler and a bag of candy.

Bob and Kolby Gilroy fired a 35 to win the morning group. Brett and David Roberts were second with a 41, with Kurt and Quinn Whiton third at 42.

Avery Miner had the girls longest putt and Molly Lutmer the girls longest drive, with Kolby Gilroy sinking the boys longest putt while David Roberts ripped the boys longest drive.

At 1 p.m. a total of 102 golfers teed off for nine holes of best-ball play for teams of youth 14 and over and an adult.

Championship flight winners were Steve and Noah Wilkening with a 30, with Julie and Alec Klise second on a 33 and Scott and Jacob Miller third with a 33.

All ties were decided on a card-back, which came into play, in particular in the First Flight after three twosomes turned in rounds of 36. Winning were Zach Wilkening and Danielle Olson, with Carol and Kade VanKirk second and Will Meinecke and Cale Banning third.

Butch Niebuhr and Jim Hallihan won the Second Flight with a 38, with Lorrie Motsick and Adam VanLin second and Jeff Miner and Brock Fox third after the later two pairs each recorded scores of 39.

Amy Rathje drained the women’s longest putt and Cale Banning the men’s longest putt, with Alex Klise posting the longest drive for the women and Steve Wilkening the longest for the men.

Meals were served, with donations helping to offset the cost. A large group of local and area businesses and residents made donations or contributed items to a silent auction, all helping to make the event a tremendous success again this summer.

All proceeds from the charity event will be given to the Trent Miner Scholarship Fund, to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and to caringbridge charities.
