Aran Daughters play Irish folk melodies

The Perry Fine Arts Series hosted a concert of traditional Irish harp music Sunday with a performance by Aran Daughters, a duet well known in central Iowa.

Kristin Maahs and Barbara Evenson compose the duet. Maahs has performed with the noted Irish band The Chieftains as well as the Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Symphony and Ames Children’s Choir. Evenson studied harp at the Cairde na Cruite harp festival in County Louth, Ireland, and with famed Irish harpist Grainne Hambly.

The next concert in the Perry Fine Arts series is Monday, April 13. Cantemus, an ensemble of the Heartland Youth Choir will perform at 7 p.m. at the Perry Performing Arts Center.
