Brad David Turner, 33, of Albuquerque, N.M., was arrested Monday on a charge of domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow causing bodily injury.

A New Mexico man was arrested Monday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with a May 14 incident in which he allegedly punched and strangled his mother in a West Des Moines motel.

Brad David Turner, 33, of 936 Sellers St. N.E., Albuquerque, N.M., was charged with domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow causing bodily injury.

The incident occurred about 1:15 a.m. May 14 in the 7200 block of Vista Drive in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a man beating his mother.

The victim told the officers that she and Turner had “a verbal dispute and while she was laying on the bed, he punched her in the face,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Turner allegedly “then took both his hands and wrapped them around her neck and squeezed,” and she “thought he was going to kill her,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “a swollen eye, with a contusion on the eye,” according to court records.

Turner told the officers that “he snapped after she made a disrespectful comment to him,” according to court records. The officers asked Turner whether he punched his mother, “and he said, ‘Yes,’ then immediately said, ‘No.'”

A warrant for Turner’s arrest was ordered May 16 in Dallas County District Court and served May 23. Turner is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 3 in Dallas County District Court.
