Assumption School in Granger held its 10th annual BRAG ride Friday, raising funds for school field trips, music and art enrichment, technology, playground and athletic equipment and other schoolhouse needs.

BRAG stands for the Bike Ride Around Granger. The annual event is Assumption School’s only fundraiser and is sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Organization. The 2015 BRAG attracted 64 sponsors, including the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Royals and numerous local and metro businesses.

Assumption Church Deacon Tom Schenk said the event has grown over the decade and is a favorite with the students and parents alike.

“The kids get some basic bike safety instruction first,” Schenk said, “and then they come out, warm up and hit the trail.” He said all intersections are monitored along the one-mile course.

The first BRAG in 2006 raised a little more than $13,000, but the event now nets more than $30,000 yearly.

“We have held the event for 10 years, and each year it continues to be more and more fun and raise more money for our school,” a BRAG spokesperson said. “Recently, we have teamed with Pride Fundraising to help with the framework and to handle online donations, and even with this partnership, we have been able to keep over 97 percent of the proceeds.”

This sounds like bragging. For Dan and Priscilla England of Granger, grandparents and supporters of the Assumption Parent-Teacher Organization, it is the sort of pride that is justified.

“This is a wonderful event for the kids and the whole Granger community,” said Priscilla England. “Today we’ve been blessed with perfect weather, too.”
