Sunday’s noon start of the auction at Dan’s Heating and Cooling at 906 Third St. in downtown Perry drew a crowd of 50 or more bargain hunters looking to profit from the wrapping up of a local business after 73 years serving Perry’s safety and comfort.

Woodward native Harvey B. Siglin opened Siglin’s Plumbing and Heating in Perry in 1946 and operated out of the Third Street shop since 1950. Siglin retired in 1989, but the business continued under new owners and under a new name, beginning March 10, 1989, when D&D Plumbing and Heating opened for business.

Two of Siglin’s longtime employees, Dean Anderson and Dan Turner, took over ownership and carried on until Anderson left the business in 2014, and Turner changed the name to Dan’s Heating and Cooling. Siglin died in May 2009, and the business he started outlived him by 10 years.

The extensive array of tools and equipment was snapped up by bidders, but offerings on the 3163-square-foot commercial building did not reach the seller’s minimum asking price, and so the property will remain on the market, according to Mike Brobst, the broker with North River Realty who handled the sale.
