Babysitting clinic teaches care-giving skills to area youngsters

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting its annual babysitting clinic today and tomorrow in Perry at the Center for Town/Craft, 1122 Willis Ave.

IMG_3364 babysittingAbout a dozen young people attended today’s session of this popular summer youth program teaching essential child care skills. Topics include first aid, safety, essential information to gather from families, nutrition and age-appropriate toys and activities.

Lisa Mickelson, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach educator, and Mackenzie Felt, summer assistant, led the three-hour session. Several clinics are held around the county during the summer months, according to Anne Feltner, Dallas County Extension spokesperson.

The babysitting clinic will be held at the Perry Center for Town/Craft, 1122 Willis Ave. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. Cost for the two-day event is $20.
