W-G senior Race Brant dodges the tag to successfully steal second base against Panorama in the first of two games June 16.

The final honor of what was an outstanding senior season has been bestowed on Woodward-Granger’s Race Brant, who was named to the Class 2A All-State First Team by the Iowa Baseball Coaches Association.

Brant was also chosen for the 2A All-State First Team by the Iowa Newspaper Association and was, of course, a First Team All-District and All-WCC selection.

The senior hit .434 (36-of-83) this summer while scoring 31 runs and driving in 14 from his spot atop the Hawk lineup. He boasted a .530 on-base percentage, striking out only seven times in 111 total trips into the batters box. The center fielder swatted four doubles, three triples and three home runs while stealing 21 bases in 24 attempts.

Brant finishes a stellar prep career with W-G school records in career hits (135) and runs scored (105) as well as in total stolen bases (83).

As with the INA All-State lists, Brant was the lone member of the West Central Conference to earn First Team honors. Placed on the Second Team by both the IHSBCA and INA were senior pitcher Kyle Schmitt and senior outfielder Jake Koch from WCC champion Van Meter.

Woodward-Granger is coached by Eric Evans. The Hawks finished 15-12 overall and 12-6 in WCC play this season.
