Perry eighth-grader Lydia Olejniczak recorded her first varsity hit in just her second at bat. She was named one of only six eighth-graders in the four classes to earn All-State honors.

If on-campus classes are allowed to resume May 1 in Iowa, the summer sports of baseball and softball would suffer only a minor delay in starting their respective seasons.

The IHSAA announced today that full practices for baseball can start May 18, while the IGHSAU listed the same date as the beginning of full softball practices. Both sports would begin competition June 1.

The softball postseason will, as usual, begin before baseball. Playoff softball would be held July 6-14, with the state tournament July 20-24. Baseball playoffs would stretch from July 9 through July 22, with the final tourney held July 24 through August 1.

Both sports were to have started their practice schedules May 4. Provided the schedules remain unchanged (as presented earlier this year) Perry baseball would miss home games with Roland-Story and Greene County while Perry softball would lost a home contest against North Polk as well as trips to Des Moines Christian and Norwalk.

The Bluejays would open play June 1 at Ogden. They would visit ADM June 2, host Carroll June 3 and entertain Boone June 4.

The Jayettes would travel to Coon Rapids-Bayard and ADM on June 1 and 2, respectively, before hosting Carroll June 3 and Boone June 4. The annual Paul and Mary Ann Graves tournament is slated to be held June 6 at the PAC.
