‘Be not afraid’: Rev. Paul, Nancy Burrow bid farewell to UMCs

The Rev. Paul and Nancy Burrow were celebrated at a farewell party Sunday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church in Perry, with a card basket ably staffed by Rachel Burrow, Paul and Nancy's daughter.

A drive-by retirement party was held for the Rev. Paul and Nancy Burrow at the Perry First United Methodist Church Sunday from 1:30-2 p.m., with a card basket ably staffed by Rachel Burrow, Paul and Nancy’s daughter.

The Burrows, retiring to Indianola after 10 years serving the congregations in Perry, Rippey, Minburn and the Fairview Church, greeted a long line of well wishers who drove by and said their farewells.

The day of fond farewells began with Pastor Paul’s online worship service at 10 a.m., followed by the drive-by parties held at each of the four churches in turn.

The First United Methodist Church in Perry is resume its face-to-face services Aug. 2. The Rev. Catherine “Cat” Stokes will serve as the full-time pastor as the Fairview, Perry and Rippey churches, and the Rev. Brent Gibbons will assume part-time pastoral duties at the Minburn UMC.

In his final sermon, Pastor Paul chose Joshua 1.9 as his text: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
