An Iowa spring offers many pleasures for the traveler, and two noteworthy events are featured in these photos.
First is Pella’s annual Tulip Time Festival, which celebrates the town’s Dutch heritage and features tulip gardens, performances, crafters, music, food, Dutch costumes and daily parades. The three-day festival includes a queen and court, selected from the two Pella high schools, who represent Pella and the Festival.
Then there is the Lilac Arboretum and Children’s Forest, also known as the Ewing Lilac Arboretum, located in Ewing Park at 5300 Indianola Ave. in Des Moines. The arboretum contains more than 1,400 lilac bushes representing 120 varieties, and this week found them beautifully in bloom.
