WOODWARD — Now 28 years young, the Beaver Creek Wrestling Club will be sending 16 of their 85 wrestlers to two different upcoming state tournaments.
First up will be the AAU state tourney Feb. 25-26 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. AAU classifies wrestlers in grades 3-4 as “A” while those in grades 5-6 are “B” with grades 7-8 listed as “C” divisions.
Two youngsters competed in the Webster City districts Feb. 5, with both advancing. Max Dalton, A-85 pounds was a district champ, with Terin Lawernson, A-108 moving on as a fouth-place finisher.
Four others — Kyler Simons, A-65, Zach Teague, A-118, Brody Nardini, B-110 and Jacson Brinker, C-115 — were in action Feb. 5 at the Indianola districts tourney. All four qualified for the state tourney after finishing as the runner-up in their division.
Simons and 10 others will be in action at Young Arena in Waterloo March 4-5 in the Super Pee-Wee state tourney. Youngsters in kindergarten, first and second grade may compete, with all wrestlers facing opponents in the same grade.
Joining Simons in Waterloo will be Cody Tuel, Lane Graham, Tanner Paustian, Ryker Bovy, Liam Jennett, Rush Jennett, Chris Tolle, Clay Noah, Will Atkinson and Avery Van Zelderen.
