The Bernie Sanders campaign has announced the cancellation of Friday’s events in Perry and Story County.

“Our supporters mean the world to us,” said Sanders spokesperson Misty Rebik, “so we want everyone to be safe during this upcoming storm.”

Sanders was scheduled to visit Perry-area voters at 6 p.m., but inclement weather has forced the cancellation.

Rebik said Saturday’s events are still scheduled to occur, including a guest appearance by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 13th congressional district.

According to Wikipedia, Sanders is a “self-described democratic socialist and progressive” who is “known for his opposition to economic inequality. On domestic policy, he broadly supports labor rights and has supported universal and single-payer healthcare, paid parental leave, tuition-free tertiary education and an ambitious Green New Deal to create jobs addressing global warming. On foreign policy, he broadly supports reducing military spending, pursuing more diplomacy and international cooperation and putting greater emphasis on labor rights and environmental concerns when negotiating international trade agreements. Commentators have noted the strong influence that his views have had on Democratic Party politics since his 2016 presidential campaign.”
