BOONE — The Perry boys basketball team received a most uncharitable welcome from Boone Friday, as the host Toreadors flattened their guests with a 23-5 second quarter that helped fuel a 77-58 Raccoon River Conference victory.

Perry (6-6, 4-3) fell behind early but trailed just 13-9 after one frame before everything fell in place for the home team. By the time the horn sounded to signal the intermission, Boone (5-6, 4-3) had seized control of the contest with a 36-14 lead.

Each team put 19 points on the board in the third quarter, all but ending any hopes Perry had of stealing a win on the road.

Shammond Ivory had 33 points to lead Perry, with Kyle Nevitt adding 11. Eight points from Solomon Pierce, four from Janier Puente and two from Ryan Rathje accounted for the remainder of the Perry scoring.

Puente finished with 13 rebounds (10 offensive) while Rathje had seven boards and Pierce six. The team had just nine total assists in the game, with Conner Nielsen making three steals.

Tanner Schminke’s 20 points led Boone, with Danny Anderson adding 10 points.

Perry will host Woodward Academy for a JV/varsity set Monday beginning at 6 p.m. Neither Perry team plays Tuesday, with the Jayettes and Bluejays to visit Carlisle Friday.
