Sporting a Birthday Boy blue ribbon, Bill Wright of rural Minburn celebrated his 84th birthday Saturday with a lunchtime party followed by soup in the evening at the Washington Township Consolidated School.

Celebrating 84 years of Dallas County living, Bill Wright of rural Minburn was feted at the Washington Township Consolidated School Foundation (WTCSF) annual soup supper and pie auction Saturday night.

“I feel pretty good for 84,” Wright said, sporting a blue ribbon reading “Birthday Boy.” “I might not feel like I’m 39, but that’s okay. It’s been a good day.”

Wright said he was treated to a private party at a Minburn cafe over the lunch hour. Funny hats were worn, he said.

“Half the county was there,” according to family friend Paul Snyder.

Wright said he saved room for supper, which included chili and tasty potato soup.

Wright also said he had his eye on a gooseberry pie, one of about 25 auctioned off to raise funds for the ongoing maintenance and restoration efforts at the school, such as the recently established and remodeled Dorothy Wright Memorial Meeting Room.

Bill’s wife, Dorothy Eileen Wright, was called home to heaven Oct. 24, 2014, far too soon for any who knew her.

The Washington Township Consolidated School operated from 1923 to 1958, the year of its last graduating class. The school then consolidated with the Minburn Independent School District to form the Central Dallas Community School District.

Central Dallas combined with the Adel School District and the DeSoto School District in 1990 to form the Adel DeSoto Minburn School District, commonly known as ADM.
