The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines warns travelers that blowing snow and gusty winds Thursday evening will make travel very difficult.
Northwesterly winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are possible over the next several hours, the NWS said.
Visibility in areas with the worst conditions, mainly rural and open areas, might be reduced to less than one-half mile Thursday night, with stretches of snow-covered and icy
roads.
The NWS advises exercise caution be used when traveling this afternoon and early evening, because numerous instances of accidents and cars in ditches have already been reported.
