Avery Meister pitches for Perry in a game last season.

Perry scored in their final at-bat Monday at Progressive Field.

Unfortunately for the hosts, there were no game-winning heroics tied to the event, as Grinnell held on to post a 4-1 win in the non-conference meeting.

The Tigers (20-8) used a pair of first inning singles and a two-run double from Jake Hull to grab an early 2-0 lead. Grinnell added a single tally in both the fourth and fifth innings, the later courtesy of Hull’s solo home run.

Perry (0-19) scored when Kaden Boyer walked, moved up on a ground out and a Quinn Helmers single and then crossed the dish on a sacrifice squeeze bunt from Conner Kenyon. A Kegan West base hit earlier in the game was the only other hit for the hosts.

West reached on an error, Boyer walked twice and Kato Dougan walked (later stealing a base) to account for the only Perry base runners.

Avery Meister threw five innings for Perry. He surrendered four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five. West tossed two frames of relief, walking one batter and retiring one on strikes.

Jayden Gibson fanned 10 Bluejays, walked two and allowed a hit in six innings on the bump. Drew Coffman pitched the seventh, yielding a run on a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Perry hosts Ogden Wednesday, visits Kuemper Catholic Thursday and will then entertain Nevada Friday.
