Perry students, cheerleaders and fans can hardly restrain themselves as Perry players celebrate in the moments after their state-qualifying win over Glenwood in Atlantic Monday. A send-off pep rally, with the public invited, will be held at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Perry High School and Middle School students, along with grade 6-8 students from St. Patrick’s School, will attend what is sure to be a raucous pep rally for the Bluejay basketball team in the PHS gym at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. Special guests have been asked to attend, and the public is welcome to join in wishing the Bluejays “Good luck” in their upcoming contest.

Seventh-seed Perry (15-9) will battle second-seed Pella (22-1) in the Class 3A Quarterfinals at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The winner advances to face the victor of the 6:35 p.m. contest between third-seed Spirit Lake (21-3) and six-seed Cedar Rapids Xavier (16-8) in the semifinal round. That game will be played at 8:15 p.m. March 10.

The Bluejays will travel by bus to Des Moines and will receive a police escort out of town. The team plans to depart at approximately 11:30 a.m. Leaving PHS, the caravan will travel south on 18th Street to Willis Avenue, then head east to the junction with Iowa Highway 141.

Fans are asked to line the route and help cheer on the Jays as they travel to Des Moines for the school’s first boys state tourney appearance since winning the Class 2A State Championship in 1988.
