DES MOINES — Saturday’s order of business for many of the Perry junior varsity wrestlers was competition at the Des Moines North Invite, and the results the JV Jays produced drew the praise of varsity head coach Mark Weber.
“Tomas (Lopez) and Amos (Barrios-Munoz) led the way,” Weber said. “They are both hard workers in the room, dedicated to the team and they show up ready to get better every day. They are great leaders on our team and demonstrate strong character.”
Both finished 2-1, with Barrios-Munoz winning twice with pins while Lopez had a pin and a major decision for his victories.
Alan Gomez was 2-1 with two pins, while Alex Fickbohm had a pin fall victory.
Leonard Jacobson also had a pin, drawing the notice of his head coach.
“Leonard picked up his fifth pin of the season,” Weber said. “He started the season with a goal and he has surpassed it greatly and I hope he is proud of his accomplishment.”
Jose Flores, Carlos Gonzalez and Christian Simmons were also in action for Perry.
“The rest of the boys who competed are showing progress and have made great strides since the beginning of the season,” Weber said. “They, too, will continue to improve in practice and at the end of this season.”
