Perry seniors Reece Dunlap (18) and German Alvarenga (3) have been chosen for All-State honors by the INA.

Senior wide receiver Reece Dunlap and senior punter German Alvarenga have both been selected for the Class 3A All-State Third Team by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Co-head coaches Ben Coy and Matt Hardy helped lead Perry to a 4-5 overall record last season. The Bluejays finished 3-4 in Class 3A District 2.

Dunlap caught 37 passes for 593 yards, and average of 16 yards per reception. He carried the ball 37 times as well, gaining 273 yards, or 7.4 per rush. The speedster caught six touchdowns and ran for two scores.

A scoring threat whenever the ball was in his hands, Dunlap found the end zone six times from 40-plus yards, returning an interception 44 yards, running for six points from 83 yards away, hauling in TD passes of 55, 62 and 77 yards and taking a kickoff 95 yards to pay dirt.

Alvarenga punted 46 times for 1,749 yards, an average of 38 yards per effort. His average yards per punt was third-best in 3A among those with 40 or more punts. His 76-yard blast at Boone was the second-longest in 3A this season.

The right-footer also hit his first 20 PAT attempts, finishing 23-of-26 for the year. Alvarenga was good on all four of his field goal tries as well, hitting a long of 35 yards and drilling a chip-shot 18-yard kick to beat Greene County in overtime. Nine of his 33 kickoffs reached the end zone for a touch back.

Reece Dunlap pulls in one of his 37 receptions this season. The senior had 593 receiving yards and caught six touchdowns.
Perry’s German Alvarenga punts just in time against DC-G Sept. 22. The senior was chosen for All-State honors for his efforts.
