Bluejay track makes trek to Cardinal Relays

NEWTON — Perry was one of 13 boys track teams happy to have the opportunity to compete Thursday at the Cardinal Relays.

Nevada claimed top honors with 118.33 points, with Ottumwa (103.33) and Marshalltown (86.33) rounding out the top three teams. Perry scored 25 points to place 10th overall.

Reece Dunlap was seventh, in 11.54 seconds, in the 100 dash as the only Bluejay to place in an individual running event, with Luke Holtorf’s sixth-place push of 40 feet, 9-1/2 inches in the shot put the lone field event points for the Jays.

The 4×400 foursome of Kaleb Olejniczak, Tyler Fessler, Brandon Kenyon and Dunlap finished second in 3 minutes, 35.18 seconds, with the distance medley squad of Olejniczak, Kenyon, Mana Martinez and Zachary Thompson fourth in 3:55.88.

Olejniczak, Dunlap, Kenyon and Kato Dougan placed fourth in the 4×100 in 45.64 seconds, with Fessler, Dougan, Byron Melendrez and Justin Stammer crossing seventh in the 4×200 in 1:40.7.

The Perry boys will run at Carlisle Tuesday and at DC-G Thursday, with the Jayette thinclads visiting ADM Tuesday and Ballard April 27.
