Bluejay wrestlers compete at Tiger quadrangular

GILBERT — The Perry grapplers were in action three times Thursday as the team participated in a quadrangular.

Perry was upended by Gilbert, 57-24, by West Marshall, 57-18, and by South Central Calhoun, 59-18. SCC topped both Gilbert (51-29) and West Marshall (42-39), with West Marshall edging the hosts, 42-39.

Cole Nelson, ranked seventh at 120 pounds, recorded a trio of pins for a perfect evening. He stuck Gavyn McKinney of of Gilbert in 1 minute, 14 seconds, Colin Vellinga of West Marshall in 1:41, and Brock Nattress of SCC in 2:16.

Heavyweight Alan Gomez received a forfeit from the hosts, then pinned Elijah Meester of West Marshall in 1:04, and Braeden Meyers-Warnke is SCC in 1:58 to finish 3-0.

Jeb Stewart was 2-1 at 145 for Perry, pinning Bode Hatfield of Gilbert in 2:37 and Adam Bartine of West Marshall in 2:27 before dropping a narrow 3-1 decision.

Leonard Jacobson was 1-2 at 195 with a pin, in 2:40, of SCC’s Andrew Trott, with Taylor Atwell (106 pounds) 1-1, winning by fall over Dennis May of Gilbert in just 42 seconds.

Ian Castellanos (126), Kyle Hernandez (132), Tanner Burgin (138), Anthony Tlaceca (152), Keegan Snyder (160), Kain Killmer (170), and Kevin Colin (220) were all winless in each of their three bouts.

Perry left the 113 and 182 weight pound classes open in all three duals while not competing at 106 against SCC.

The Bluejays will return to action Saturday when they travel to Carlisle for the Raccoon River Conference tournament.
