Bluejay wrestlers drop both duals in triangular

BONDURANT — The Perry matmen visited Bondurant-Farrar for a pair of duals Thursday, with the hosts topping the Bluejays, 52-16, after Perry had fallen, 53-24, to Van Meter/Earlham. B-F was a 40-34 victor over VM/E in the other dual.

Perry left the 106, 120 and 195-pound weight classes open. The Jays finished a combined 7-14 in uncontested matches, winning an additional match via forfeit.

Jacob Nelson (145 pounds) was the only Perry grappler to finish 2-0. He won a 7-0 decision against VM/E before scoring a 15-7 major decision against the hosts.

Wilber Ramirez was 1-1 with a pin in 1 minute, 8 seconds, against VM/E at 160 pounds, with Cole Nelson (113) 1-1 with a pin (3:40) against VM/E while Erick Funez scored a pin, in 5:30, against VM/E to also finish 1-1.

Ever Tobar was 1-1 at 152 with a pin, in 3:35, against B-F while Zach Darr claimed a 3-2 decision in his lone match, which came against VM/E.

Perry’s other victory came when Carlos Gonzalez received a forfeit from B-F at 285 to finish 1-1.

Tanner Burgin (126), Alex Fickbohm (132), Amos Barrios-Munoz (170) and Cole Snyder (182) were all winless in each of their two matches, with Logan Brokaw winless in his lone match at 220, which was against B-F.

Perry will return to the mats Saturday when they visit Ames for Jack Mendenhall Invite, which traditionally includes numerous strong programs.
