NORWALK — The Perry offense accounted for only 54 total yards Friday as the Bluejays fell to the host Warriors, 49-0, in Class 3A District 8 action.

The loss was the fourth straight for Perry (0-4) and ends a three-game stretch of road games. Norwalk improved to 1-3 for the season after surging to a 41-0 halftime lead.

The simplest of tasks continued to vex Perry, with numerous snaps to the quarterback either inaccurate or dropped, resulting in a series of plays for negative yards. Of Perry’s 40 running plays, 28 gained yardage, the longest 12-yard run in the fourth quarter from quarterback Jeremiah Baker, the biggest gain for Perry this season.

Norwalk scored on two of their first three offensive snaps. Max Juergens hit Ethan Carlson for a 55-yard passing touchdown, the Juergens finding Max Rohrer for an 18-yard score moments later.

Chase McKinney went untouched 40 yards on a jet sweep for a TD as the hosts posted a 20-0 lead with 5:43 still to play in the first quarter. Carlson returned a punt 58-yards just over a minute later, with Sam Eggers bulling in from two yards out as the margin swelled to 34-0 after 12 minutes of one-sided play.

Roherer had a two-yard TD run in the third quarter, with Landon Hochstein scoring on a 20-yard run in the fourth as the scored moved to 49-0. The score could easily have been worse, but Rohrer — running free and about to score — deliberately stepped out of bounds in the waning moments in an act of sportsmanship.

Norwalk finished 109 combined passing yards and 247 rushing yards on 20 carries.

Baker hit 1-of-6 passes, finding Cayden Widen for two yards. Baker ran 21 times for a total of 15 yards, with Abe Ruiz rushing times for 35 yards.

Gavin Hegstrom returned an interception two yards for the Bluejay defense and had 3.5 tackles. Ben Ramirez had 3.5 stops, with Miguel Sieraa and Emmanuel Soto teaming up for a sack.

Perry returns to Dewey Field Friday when they host Winterset (3-1) for Homecoming. The two Raccoon River Conference schools have not played each other in football since 2005.
