Bluejays bow out to host Cyclones

HARLAN, Iowa — The Perry boys basketball team had their season ended Monday in a Class 3A Region 8 quarterfinal with host Harlan Monday.

The Cyclones (16-6) caused enough damage in the first quarter to end any hope the Bluejays (2-20) by erupting for a 27-4 lead. A 23-5 scoring crush in the second frame put the halftime score at 50-9.

Brad Curren sank six 3-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points for Harlan, all of which came in the first half. Jacob Birch had 17 points for the hosts, 14 of them before the break.

Perry received eight points apiece from Drake Levan and Zander Mahler, with the former sinking two 3-pointers and the later one.

Holden Smith and Owen Myers each had four points for the Jays, with Geren Kenney scoring three points on a trey while Kaleb Lyddon added two points.

Matthew Booker and Caden Steva were seniors for Perry this year, as was Tyler Devilbiss, Abe Ruiz and Lyddon.
