Sophomore Kyle Nevitt picked up the pitching win Monday, aiding his own cause with three hits and two RBIs.

DALLAS CENTER — Perry scored twice in the third innings and four more times in the fifth to unlock a 4-4 contest and pave the way for a 10-6 win over DC-G in non-conference baseball Monday.

Kyle Nevitt earned the win on the mound and aided his own cause by finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Janier Puente tossed the final 2.2 innings and helped to ensure the victory with his bat as well by lacing a line-drive two-run shot over the left field fence in the fifth.

Matt Sartwell started for the hosts but did not record an out and left after allowing three runs on three walks.

Will Whiton walked to start the game, then stole second and third. A pair of walks loaded the bases, with Blake Lansing’s free pass sending Whiton home. A double-play followed and it looked as if the hosts might avert greater damage, but Nevitt came through with a two-run single for a 3-0 Perry lead.

Whiton had a RBI-single in the second, but DC-G had scored twice in the first and then added two more tallies on a Callen Bertrand double to tie the game at 4-all after two stanzas.

Singles from Alex Long and Whiton drove in Perry runs in the third, with DC-G trimming their deficit to 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth.

A Nevitt double started the Bluejay fifth, with Kade VanKirk reaching on a run-scoring error. Puente’s laser-shot over the left field fence followed, with Roberts singling home the 10th run of the game for the guests later in the frame.

Perry played error-free defense to help secure the win, while DC-G miscues accounted for three unearned Bluejay runs to score.

DC-G added a run in the sixth but could come no closer as Perry captured the victory.

Nevitt went 4.1 innings on the bump, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and five walks. Puente fired 2.2 frames, yielding an earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.

Whiton and VanKirk each finished with two hits to aid Perry, with Nevitt joining Whiton in stealing two bases while Nic Wilhelmi contributed a theft.

Brady Brecht went 4.1 innings for DC-G, allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk in being handed the loss. Tyler Ross (1.2) and Austin Kloewer (1) pitched in relief as well, with each allowing one hit. Ross had three strikeouts and Brecht and Kloewer one each.

Bertrand and Cole Baker drove in two runs apiece for the hosts, with Joe Prohaska and Parker Schutt adding RBIs as well.

Perry visits Carroll Wednesday and Boone Thursday before hosting ADM Friday.
