No longer a conference rival, but still a team they would like to beat.
That, no doubt, would sum up the feelings teams from Perry and DC-G have for each other.
On Monday, in boys soccer, it was Perry who triumphed, as the rock solid Bluejay defense and goalie Jorge Soto produced shutout number seven on the season as the hosts improved to 10-2 overall with a 4-0 win on Dewey Field.
Perry was on the board early, with Oscar Chavez passing to freshman German Alvarenga, who but the biscuit in the basket for a 1-0 Bluejay lead in the sixth minute.
The hosts held a 2-0 halftime lead thanks to a goal in the 25th minute from Jesus Rodriguez. Saul Tellez’s second assist of the season helped Rodriguez add to his team leading total with his 12th score of the year.
The margin grew to 3-0 when Chavez scored in the first minute of the second half off a Rodriguez pass, with Alvarenga scoring for the eighth time this season by beating the keeper in the 61st minute, the assist going to David Cardenas.
Perry will travel to Adel today to face bitter rival ADM in what has become a heated rivalry. At stake will be the outright crown of the Raccoon River Conference. A freshman game will begin at 4:15 p.m. with junior varsity and varsity to follow.
