CRESTON — The Perry wrestling team kept three of their eight district-qualifying matmen on the sidelines Tuesday when the squared off with host and second-ranked Creston/Orient-Macksburg in a 2A Dual Team first round duel.
The Panthers recorded 10 wins by pin in collecting a 64-13 victory. Adan Medina, at 182, lost by major decision and was the lone Bluejay to avoid a loss by fall, a list which included sectional runner-up Zach Stewart at 138.
Kaleb Olejniczak (106 pounds), Kade VanKirk (132) and Eli Saemisch (170) were kept out of competition by Perry head coach Trevor Kittleson as all are nursing injuries.
The three remaining Jays to see action were all victorious. Zachary Thompson pinned his opponent at 120 pounds, with Gisaveri Niyibizi winning by major decision at 126 while Jacob Thompson posted a win by decision, at 5-2, at 145.
The Perry octet will compete Saturday in Webster City in a Class 2A District Tournament. Wrestling begins at 12 p.m. with the district champion and runner-up at each weight class advancing to the state tournament.
