Perry pitcher Janier Puente flips to first baseman Blake Lansing to retire Carlisle's Jensen Mikesell after a sacrifice bunt at Progressive Field Monday. Perry defeated Greene County, 6-1, Tuesday.

JEFFERSON — Perry plated two runs in their first at-bat and four more in their final frame at the plate to post a 6-1 non-conference victory over old rival Greene County.

Four Greene County (7-4) errors led to four unearned runs for the Bluejays, who, despite tallying just four singles, were on base nine times on walks.

Free passes with one out in the top of the first inning to Nic WIlhelmi and Zach Roberts set the stage for the only two runs Perry (8-3) would need. A walk to Blake Lansing loaded the bases, with an infield error scoring Wilhelmi while Brandon Kenyon — on to courtesy-run for Roberts — was able to jog home on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Nevitt.

Walks to Tyler Beger and Daric Whipple put a pair of Rams on the bases in the bottom of the third, with Beger scoring after an error when Riah Nelson lofted a sac fly to right field. Whipple was nailed off third base as Bluejay starter Alex Long avoided further damage.

Perry scored four times in the seventh on a walk, two errors and singles from Blake Lansing and Kyle Nevitt, the later a suicide bunt.

Long had a strong outing on the bump for the Bluejays. The senior went all seven innings, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits and four walks while striking out one.

Whipple suffered the loss for the hosts. He lasted 6-1/3 frames, yielding five runs (two earned) on just three hits. He struck out four but issued nine walks. Reid Lamoreaux pitched the final two outs, yielding a hit and one run (unearned).

Nevitt drove in two runs for Perry and stole three bases, with Will Whiton adding a single and two steals while Adan Medina had a hit and a theft. Lansing’s single was the only other hit for Perry.

Perry  visits Bondurant-Farrar tonight before hosting Ballard Thursday. Perry has Friday off before making their annual trip to the Atlantic Tournament Saturday.
