The Perry boys lifted their overall soccer record to 8-2 with a 1-0 victory over Des Moines East at Dewey Field Tuesday.

While the Scarlets fell to 3-7 with the loss, the guests proved to be a quick, sharp-passing team that provided a solid test for the Jays.

“They were a good team,” Perry assistant coach Nathan Krohn said. “We are still searching for a little more ‘something’ to get us really clicking, but our boys are right where they need to be at this point of the season.”

Perry connected for the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute of action. A corner kick brought the ball 25 yards in front of the East goal, where Alvaro Soto lifted a perfectly-placed crossing pass toward the corner of the goal, where Jesus Rodriguez headed the ball into the tight spot between the Scarlet goalie and the post. The goal was the 11th of the season for Rodriguez.

Senior goalie Jorge Soto continued to terrorize opposing offenses by posting his eighth shutout of the season on six saves. Soto has allowed only one goal in regulation play this season, with the other Perry loss coming on penalty kicks.

Perry will return to the pitch May 5 when they host Ballard at Dewey Field.
