Bob and Mary Long of Perry will celebrate 60 years of marriage on Thursday, Aug. 8.
They are both natives of the Manila area and met and married there in 1964.
Bob landed work at the Oscar Mayer pork plant in Perry, so the newlyweds moved to Perry and never left, raising four children in Perry: Sidney, Deborah, Sheila and Joe. They now have eight grandchildren as well: Sidney has a daughter named Ashley. Deborah’s children are Amanda, Elyse and Andrew. Sheila has Carl and Audrey, and Joe’s kids are named Jordan and Isaac.
Mary took great pride in raising her children, and she was an accomplished domestic homemaker. Her children’s and grandchildren’s happiness and well being were her main priority. One of Bob’s greatest joys has been his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and careers. He was always at their games, cheering them on.
Mary often volunteered at the St. Patrick Catholic School and Church. She worked over the years at the Masonic Home, Hotel Pattee and Spring Valley retirement center.
Bob enjoyed car collecting and “sitting long and talking much” over a cup of coffee.
They both have always had a big heart for helping elderly friends and neighbors over the years. They would be happy to hear from friends as they mark their milestone. Direct cards and letters to:
