Tim Fechter, 58, of Creston has been identified as the deceased person found July 1 in rural Adair County. Fechter was last seen June 20 in Creston.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) crime laboratory positively identified Tuesday the body found in rural Adair County July 1 as that of Timothy Fechter, 58, of Creston, who was reported missing June 20.

Law enforcement had been searching the south central part of the state for Fechter since his disappearance from Creston. Adair County Deputy Sheriffs found Fechter’s body July 1 just off of 320th Street near the intersection of York Avenue.

Based on the circumstances of his disappearance and the discovery of his death, the DCI, in coordination with the Creston Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s office and Adair County Sheriff’s office, continued to investigate Fechter’s death as suspicious.

A determination of the exact cause and manner of Fechter’s death is pending further examination by the office of the State Medical Examiner.

There is no known threat to the public associated with this investigation, the DCI said Tuesday.

Anyone with information relevant to the death of Fechter is asked to call Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater at 641-743-2148.
